Ever read [tag]To Kill a Mockingbird[/tag]? So have we, but none of us here at the Lair of Silliness remember Boo Radley turning out to be a pirate, nor do we recall a single ninja in the story. This flash book report of To Kill a Mockingbird doesn’t let a little thing like storyline get in its way, though. Hey!

So, what’s so silly about [tag]Robin Hook, Pirate Hunter[/tag] by [tag]Eric A. Kimmel[/tag] (Illustrated by [tag]Michael Dooling[/tag])? A fair question. As is suggested by the title, the plot is loosely based upon the tales of Robin Hood. Well, perhaps it is more accurate to say that some elements of the plot are drawn from “Robin Hood,” because the reader will soon find bits of the story which have come from Peter Pan and Dr. Dolittle.

Not silly enough?
How about flying squid that shoot ink? Yes, flying squid…and a great white shark with a taste for greasy sausage. All of this in 29 pages.

Did I mention that this is a picture book?
Yep, designed for children…who I think would agree with me about the silliness of it all. Young Robin and his crew of marooned children build a boat that The Professor from Gilligan’s Island would be proud of, and go about annoying Pirates.

So, to sum up: beautiful oil paintings, fun to read aloud, and darn silly…but not really believable.
